The T-SHIRT

Since 1915, an imperial dye house rooted in Mibu, Kyoto has devoted their practice to a single colour: black. Over a century and four generations, their craft — honed for kimono and formal wear — culminated in the 1996 kurozome kakumei technique: an ecologically sound dye that stays colourfast in sun and rain, reduces light reflection, and builds nuanced depth through natural oxide bottoming with madder, indigo, tea leaves, and bark.
